Philips’ New Advanced Webcams

For some people, once you’ve seen a webcam, you’ve seen them all. Yet obviously, the people at Philips think otherwise. In the first of June, they released three new webcams which they describe as their crowning glory – all advanced and packed with features. The three webcams are SPC620, SPC1000, and SPC1300. So what is it about these webcams that make Philips so proud?

According to their press release, “the new Philips webcams allow you to easily customize how video chats look to match your style, for example by changing the background to give the appearance of chatting from a different location, or framing the image using a variety of imaginative designs. You can also choose from a selection of creative real-time video effects, or add a personal logo or emoticon to your chats to express your mood.”

Interesting we say. Yet perhaps the one thing that caught our attention is the face tracking technology applied in these webcams. This means that the cams follow movement, resulting in the user’s face being in the middle of the picture when in use. The SPC 1300 also has 2 built in directional microphones – perfect for video conferences. These were designed to create a “quiet zone” around the user, thus cutting out external noise. The SPC 1000 has only one microphone.

How about the price? The SPC620 will cost you about €49.90 ($67) – the same price for the SPC1000. However, the SPC1300 goes for almost double that at €99.90 ($135). Expect to see these webcams all over the world by August.
