All right Apple fans out there, here is a piece of news that you may or may not like. The Apple iPhone, which I am sure you are awaiting with much anticipation, is reported to be available only for AT&T subscribers. With a carrier exclusivity agreement binding the use of the Apple iPhone ONLY to AT&T for 5 years, we can expect two things. One, Apple enthusiasts will get the iPhone and switch to AT&T if they are currently with another carrier. Two, people will not the buy the Apple iPhone because they do not want to switch carriers.
For people who fall under the former category, they might just be better off, depending on their current carrier. For those who fall under the latter category, they just might be out of luck for the next 5 years. This carrier exclusivity deal means that people in the US who do not wish to subscribe to AT&T but want the iPhone would have to wait till 2012 before they can get their hands on one.
Of course, things aren’t always the way they seem to be. I am sure that one way or another, there might just be a way to get one’s hands on the Apple iPhone without having to subscribe to AT&T. Who knows? In any case, it seems that Verizon is coming out with an “iPhone killer” this summer. Why is it that they always try to come out with an “i-Something killer?”
