For many computer and consumer electronic companies such as Apple, Microsoft and Sony, the living room is where next battle for computers and digital electronics domination is set. Though this space is currently ruled by traditional electronic devices such as the television, audio and video components, Apple and Microsoft and other computer companies would very much like to be the king of the living room. Although Microsoft has had a big head start in this front, their media center initiative for the living room doesn’t seem to be picking up speed as they would like it to be. This is partly because of high cost of media center computers, but it’s also because of the difficulty of the software interface.
Using its strengths in creating simple and intuitive design and user interfaces, Apple’s bet in the living room comes in the form of a small device called the Apple TV. True to the apple tradition, the apple tv promises a very simple experience for the user. Its software is very intuitive. The apple TV connects to your television either through HDMI or component cables, and syncs with your iTunes wirelessly. Content can be played through streaming from any iTunes source or you can setup Apple TV to sync with one iTunes. Syncing will ensure that all your media (video, audio and photos) from your synced itunes will be automatically downloaded to apple tv’s built-in hard drive. With Apple TV, you can use your living room to watch movies or television shows bought from the iTunes Store, watch picture slideshows from your recent vacation, listen to your music or even listen to podcasts through your living room television and audio system. Apple TV is the best way to liberate your media from the constraints of your computer screen
