Anti-Counterfeit Measures from Xerox

June 19th, 2007 · No Comments

Xerox Technology

When Xerox first designed their Anti-Counterfeit Detection (ACD) technology they originally meant for it to be used to simply help prevent high tech versions of “Catch Me if You Can” episodes. They felt it was their responsibility as a photocopier giant to provide the means to stop people from using their digital copiers and printing systems from being used to make counterfeit money. What they didn’t realize then (but of course know now) is that the technology has more wide-ranging applications.

Now instead of just being a mere counterfeit detector Xerox has come up with a software that allows your digital printer to “create personalized fluorescent marks on documents.” This means that you now have the capability to ensure that no one can make counterfeit copies of your important personal effects since they can’t copy your fluorescent marks (if you can afford the printer that is). On a more bigger scale Xerox hopes that businesses will see the sense in adopting stricter security measures by printing the official documents with the company’s special fluorescent marks.

The printer makes use of “dry ink” found in xenographic printers to make the fluorescent marks. Of course all you need is to expose the printed document under UV light to check for the mark’s existence. Interested persons can get this technology as part of Xerox’s FreeFlow Variable Information Suite 5.0 software. Note though the software is compatible only with Windows NT, 2000, XP and Sun OS 5.0 and higher.
